Lifespan

The lifespan also depend on the species in question. Coconut palm can live for 80 to 90 years. Mexican fan palm can live for about 100 years. Some of the causes of their deaths are insect attack, lack of nutrients, unfavourable climate conditions. They might show some signs that they are about to die or dead. Some of the signs might include wilting, discoloured or stunted palm fronds.

Habitat

Most palm trees are native of tropical or subtropical climates. Palm trees thrive in hot and moist climates. They can be found in a variety of habitats. Their diversity is most in wet, lowland forests. South America, the Caribbean, and areas of South Pacific or Southern Asia are area of concentration. Palm trees like moist soils.

Facts

Palm trees are not really trees as defined by botanists but large, woody herbs. This is because trees undergo secondary growth, but on the other hand, palm trees do not undergo secondary growth. True trees also contain wood, while palm trees do not. Palm trees create their tough (wood – like epidermis) through primary thickening and lignification.
